Excellence in Scientific Publishing

For over 70 years the Freshwater Biological Association has published scientific and general interest books designed for the researcher, professional or enthusiast. Publications are written by leading scientists and practitioners in freshwater biology, limnology and aquatic ecology and edited by the FBA, thus assuring a high level of accuracy and credibility.

The FBA’s range includes publications of a general nature, introducing the fascinating subject of freshwater biology, through to reference texts for the accurate identification of individual species, genera and families of organisms.

Scientific (SP) Series : Identification Keys and Analysis Guides. The Identification Keys lead the user through identification criteria and are packed with ecological notes of where the organism is likely to be found and the conditions they inhabit. The Analysis Guides offer practical advice on sampling techniques.

Occasional (OP) Series: Bibliographies, Published Data Sets and User Manuals.

Special (SPEC) Series: Reference Texts, published conference proceedings and regional case studies. The Reference Texts cover many aspects of general freshwater ecology and several draw on the English Lake District for practical examples.
Journals Series: The FBA has recently launched the latest addition to its journal series. Freshwater Reviews provides comprehensive, modern reviews of current topics in the freshwater sciences. Published online first and with two print issues a year Freshwater Reviews will be particularly welcomed by a broad spectrum of academics, practitioners, administrators, teachers and students.

Freshwater Reviews is a welcome addition to the FBA's portfolio of journals which also includes Freshwater Forum. Back issues of Freshwater Forum are still available for purchase, comprising conference proceedings and thematic reviews.  Click here for more information.
